Keyless egress and legislation are in the news at the moment and can seem daunting but GRN are here to help our customers keep their tenants safe and their businesses secure.
From 1 October 2023 all owners that let their property, even for a single night and regardless of the platform upon which they advertise, will need to have a full written and recorded Fire Risk Assessment, by law. Link to the full guide is at the end of this post.
The main provision for exit doors, under the new legislation, is that they must have keyless egress -which means they can be opened from the internal side without a key. This legislation is designed to ensure the safety of your guests. The exact wording in the new regulation is:
‘Exit doors, such as the front or back door, should always be easy to unlock and must not need a key to unlock them from the inside. A simple latch or thumb turn is usually good enough. However, you may need to consider whether all guests are able to open these doors. A simple single action turn handle or lever will often be more appropriate.’
GRN can provide keyless exit systems for modern and traditional doors.
As always we at GRN are committed to helping you secure your home or business in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible. Call Geoff on 07889325487 or visit our contact us page if you need any advice regarding the new legislation and which locks are required.

Our advice is to read the guide and consult with an approved Fire Risk Assessment Officer (FRSA) to ensure your property is compliant with the new legislation. Ensuring you have the right locks is just a small part of the overall changes that may be required.
